AR Invoice User Defined Fields - Need to be able to enter UDF after invoice has been updated.

We are looking for a way in which we can assign a "collection status" code to invoices.  Thought that an invoice user defined field would do the trick.  However, I learned from support that the data going into the invoice user defined fields can only be entered during the invoice entry.  Once the invoice is updated into the system, one can only view the user defined fields.  It would be a great enhancement if one could enter data on an invoice user defined field after the invoice has been updated.
