HR - More Trigger selections in HR module

We are trying to use triggers in the HR module but are restricted as to what we can use.   We ould like to select eligibility dates based on the type of worker - Union, Non-union, and such.  We can only select All Employees or by a Supervisor and would like to have more fields in which to select by.  We have 3 types of insurance and when eligibility comes due and so using some additional selection field would be good.   Right now we have to calculate the dates and enter them into the User Defined field to select the items by.
