It'd be helpful to be able to mark old payroll add-on/deduction codes inactive. We don't like to delete things to lose historical data.

I agree. Inactivation would be great!
Deleting a code doesn't purge the data. It DOES delete the title of the code though.
So lets assume that I have a code Z1 titled 'Geoff's Coffee Fund'. If we later delete out Z1 from the maintenance screen, Z1 will stilll exit in the records...but the title won't be there.
Granted your request is much more elegant...but just wanted you to know there was another option.
