When looking at the work order cost report you can not see what parts were used from inventory on that work order.

There should only be one Work Order system, like in every other maintenance software. Work Orders are for managing "Work" no matter what that work is, or is on, or who it is for. It still has to be scheduled, still has to be costed or invoiced. Just because Work is on own equipment does not make it any different in the way the processes are handled.

Site work orders already display the description of the item...What am I missing?
