When entering time, after the pay type, the cursor's next stop is job number (if a job) or date if not a department with job codes. It would be more efficient if we can tab to from the pay type to the department code. We have personnel switching departments and it is extra key strokes to go back and change the department code.

Great news! This already exists and can be set at a company wide level.
On the Payroll Install | Defaults screen select the 'Time Card Entry Fields' button. Make sure that the department field is selected.
How this works is that if the system finds a valid answer, it will skip that field.
