Please validate email addresses for correct format when you hit Save on the Vendor screen (avoids EFT remittances from failing)

Hello

We struggle with our EFT batches sometimes failing to send emails. The error message on the screen is not helpful.

The most common reason for this is if someone enters an email address for a Vendor in that contains an invalid character or isn't in a correct email address format.

Example if they copy and paste from Outlook and it is entered as mailto:user@domain.com Or if you miss the last period.

If you could make it so that when you hit save on the Vendor screen that it checks to make sure that any entered email addresses are in a correct format, this would reduce the chances of our batch failing.

It is not a perfect fix it won't help other misspellings, but it would be preferential than having the EFT Remittance batches fail.

I'm hoping it is an easier fix than requesting that you implement a more robust outbound email system into Spectrum. Assuming your platform supports this, it could just be a simple Regular Expression your developers add. I'm not suggesting that it does any further checking to make sure the email address entered is a valid recipient.

Lastly, this could be extended to anywhere in Spectrum where email addresses are stored and used for automated messages. AR Customers could be another example.

Thanks!

Robert Peloski

In this case yes, but there are likely other characters that can trip things up.

Rob - is it that we are allowing 'mailto:' here?

      Example:

You can straight out type in mailto:user@vendor.com in there and it will accept it.

When we send out the remittances, the SMTP relay for email will spit back an error and Spectrum will give you the usual Failed to Send message.

We are relaying through Microsoft 365 SMTP. I know some of your other customers use turbosmtp but it would probably act the same.

      Hello Robert!

I just took a quick look at Vendor File Maintenance and we do require the email to be in the format of [name]@[orginization].[requires at least one character].

      A@b.c is considered valid.

Can you help us out and give us some examples where it isn't working properly? And if you have an email address that was allowed when you think it shouldn't be, let us know that too.

      Thanks!

      Geoff
