Estimating gives a lot of detail in their phase codes but it gets limited to 25 characters. This is the information that is send out to our iPads so they can code their timecards. If it could be increased by about 10 characters that would help our field be able to code their time more accurately.

I understand that you may need to eventually increase the width of all the screens or add a slide bar or allow the field to be cursored over, but if you left the screens as the are, and still increased the length of the characters, it would help a lot as we would be able to use this data beyond just the screens. Yes the major screens that use the description are important to get updated (like when someone wants to see which Phase they need to enter production and the first 25 characters are exactly the same). This is why the need is there to increase all the descriptions throughout Spectrum. When I code, I can change the width of data and fix the screens later without any impact to the program, can it not be the same with Spectrum? Then Focus 1 Screen/Report each month. Just a thought.
Unfortunately that will not help me with my issue as the phase description is what is exported to our iPads.
We added a 250 character text box that can be used as an alternate description.
While it sounds easy to just go in and make the field larger, it actually impacts the majority of the system. Anywhere that the phase description displays would have to be refactored to make space for the larger description.
Just for some background...when we enhanced the phase code length to 20 characters from 12, it took over a year to complete. Every screen and report had to be changed one at a time.
I am not saying that we won't ever do this...I just want everyone to know what its a large project. And there are trade offs in life..to do this type of project means we have to give up on something else.

It actually needs to be up to 100 characters, DOT's use a lot of characters. Viewpoint will tell you to use the alternate description and that this is not an issue as I have submitted this before, what they fail to understand is the alternate description isn't displayed where users need to see it, but they will tell you it is already solved, but it's not, maybe you will have better luck than I, because they don't use the software in the real world, Viewpoint doesn't understand. They just write the code but don't use it.
